RUNtime returns with a new, lean style... and a lot to say about Scott Pilgrim’s gaming roots.

By Jeremy Parish

Remember the RUNtime podcast? It’s OK if not—it was rather short-lived, struck down in its youth by the realities of trying to coordinate a lot of different conversations remotely during a time of lockdown. But the show is back for the new year, with a slightly recalibrated approach: RUNtime Volume 2 will run on a monthly schedule and will primarily focus on the conversations with developers and designers (with cameos from Limited Run crew from time to time!).

To start things off, naturally we turn to the man behind our biggest release for the new year. This episode is all about Bryan Lee O’Malley and the gaming origins of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game - Complete Edition (which will continue to be available for purchase in physical form from Limited Run through the end of the weekend). This is really more about the inspirations behind the Scott Pilgrim concept than it is about the game itself, though of course we do talk about the game! Mostly, though, it’s a laid-back discussion of classic games and comics and how those have shaped his work through the years—and, of course, how they fed back into the Scott Pilgrim game.

Episode Description: RUNtime is back, and host Jeremy Parish kicks things off by speaking to Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O'Malley to discuss the video gaming roots and influences that helped inspire his work (and, of course, the game).

And, of course, don’t forget to grab your copy of the game before the sale ends.

See you next month with more game development insights!

Special thanks to Bryan for making this episode possible.
