“The Complete Run” Continues with Saturday Morning RPG

The Complete Run—our weekly video series chronicling the history of Limited Run Games, title by title—continues with its second episode. Which, naturally, concerns our second game release: Saturday Morning RPG. Watch it here:
As with last week’s debut episode, this latest video digs deep into the design and mechanics of the game while offering a bit of historical and cultural context. The cultural context is pretty important, since Saturday Morning RPG was all about riffing on childhood memories of pop culture. One part Super Mario RPG-style timed-combat role-playing adventure, one part ’80s and ’90s media overdose, Saturday Morning RPG devoted five standalone chapters of breezy RPG gameplay to creating a unique and lighthearted adventure that in no way resembled its predecessor.
It’s a much better representation of what Limited Run would be about in the coming years than Breach & Clear was: An upbeat indie adventure driven by personal passion and a love for the medium… or rather, for media. Not just great video games, but TV shows and movies like Transformers and Back to the Future—but at the same time, more than just a retread of what had come before.
