Ball x Pit Updates, Top 2 Million in Sales, and Continues to Rule

If you're the kind of person who loves stuffing RPG elements into genres that have no business hosting them (but still nail it, somehow), brickbreaker x RPG hybrid Ball x Pit recently received an update that features two new characters and new items. The developers also threatened another potential update (or updates) with the announcement that Ball x Pit has sold 2 million copies since its October 2025 release. 

It's difficult to adequately describe the satisfaction you feel from successfully completing a run of Ball x Pit. There's the lingering doom of the ever-descending enemy columns from above while you try to contain the chaos from below with a character that spits balls and offers different perks and drawbacks based on their class. The Warrior, for example, is an all-rounder with no specific strengths or weaknesses in his attack or defense. But a character like the Entombed, a resurrected mummy, has balls that pierce enemies until they hit a wall. Or there's the Falconer, who's flanked by birds that shoot balls that converge at a single point. The Juggler flings his balls over the enemy lines, and they don't start bouncing until they hit the ground.

Most of the weird powers bestowed on Ball x Pit's colorful menagerie have plusses as well as drawbacks, but some classes are just hilariously bizarre. The Cogitator is a philosopher who automatically chooses your power-ups for you. The Radical, who bears a strong resemblance to Solid Snake, just plays the whole game for you. But the weirdest ball-player out of all of them is the Tactician. Picking this brilliant fellow turns Ball x Pit into a turn-based RPG—one that's fascinating to play, believe it or not.

The new Naturalist update for Ball x Pit offers two new characters, which means two new ways to run down hallways while throwing balls into your enemies' faces. The hulking Ballbearer can only equip attack-based balls; no passive skills allowed. But his opposite, the Hoardy Horder, is only allowed to equip two attack balls. The trade-off is his ability to load himself up with passives that can beef up his meagre options for physical violence.

Ball x Pit's frantic gameplay meshes well with its town-building aspect. You construct buildings by placing down a shell, then firing your townspeople like pinballs. Each hit is a hammer strike. This is also how you harvest resources, which go back into building structures that boost your stats. It's also how you build the homes belonging to your party members. Hey, even bowling balls have a place to stay when they're not being used.

If you want to get into the pit of balls—and you should, it's great fun—Ball x Pit is available on everything, including PC, Switch/2, PS5, Xbox X|S, iOS, and Android. How handy. If you don't like how the game plays on one specific platform, you can just… bounce around.
