Sonic X Shadow Generations: What Else is in The Box?
Sonic X Shadow Generations: What Else is in The Box?
High-class packaging... with an evil twist.
Good morning to those of you in the Western Hemisphere. For the rest of you, already soaking up the weekend vibes on the other side of the world, we can only envy you. But we are equal opportunity posters here, so regardless of where you happen to exist at the moment, we have more Sonic tidbits to share.
Things are still moving a little slowly on the “news from the factory” front, so that means it’s time to crack open one of the Sonic X Shadow Generations boxes waiting in our warehouse for the final revamped statues to arrive and take a look at some of the other goodies inside. This week, it’s the optional Steelbook that’s caught our attention!

Although the general setup of the Steelbook probably won’t shock anyone with unexpected twists (it’s a high-quality metal case emblazoned with Sonic-related artwork, whaddya want), you might be a little bit surprised to learn that the case front features not our favorite blue guy (Sonic) but rather his nefarious rival (Shadow). Has Sonic fallen out of favor? Is this the end of his reign? Is this a portent of Shadow’s rise to dominance in the franchise?
Eh, probably not. It’s just a cool pic of Shadow. Why wouldn’t you want to put this on the front of the case?

Of course, we still have some equal Sonic representation here. And he doesn’t seem the least bit nonplused to have been relegated to back cover status. That’s what we like about Sonic! No matter the circumstances, he’s always an upbeat go-getter.

Inside, it’s a similar story, but on a smaller, cuddlier scale: The front half of the case features a dark Chao (who is evil, sinister, and malcontent!) while the back half showcases a good Chao (who is simply good). The Chao are imprinted on the case interior and visible through the translucent plastic snap-in tray that holds the Sonic X Shadow Generations disc and manual. These specifics, of course, only apply to disc-based releases of the game. But the overall spirit works out the same across all platforms: it’s darkness front and center.
Will light ultimately prevail? Join us again next week for another Sonic X Shadow Generations update!
