Sonic X Shadow Generations Production Update 1

Welcome to the first of our weekly production updates for Sonic X Shadow Generations.
If you’re here, that’s probably because you saw our announcement last week. The one about the statue that’s included with the Sonic X Shadow Generations Collector’s Edition. The one where we announced that we’re having new statues manufactured.
You may be wondering, “What on earth happened? Did you seriously need to pull the emergency brake and completely redo that statue?!”
On the other hand, some of you already know why. You’re one of the Sonic fans who received your CE as part of our first batch of shipments and immediately spotted issues that should never have made it out the door for a premium collector’s edition... or for any edition, really. These problems were severe, they were obvious, they were consistent from set to set, and most of all, they were not something we could—or should!—try to “patch” with quick fixes.
So, no shortcuts here. We stopped shipments and hit reset.
If you haven’t received your CE yet, well, here are some photos that the community has shared of the initial batch. You can see what we (and they) saw.
The tl;dr of it is: this statue did not meet the quality bar you deserve, and it’s not something that we’re willing to put the Limited Run Games name on.
So, we’re rebuilding it properly, from scratch. And when we say “from scratch,” we mean that this is a full restart of the entire production path for the statue. We will be:
- Retooling it;
- Reviewing new prototypes;
- Testing new paint masters; and
- Implementing tighter checkpoints (read: quality assurance by actual human eyes) before the replacements go into mass production.
This process will take a while, and that means you’ll have to wait a few months longer before you receive your completed CE. But the reality of this situation is that there is no version of “fast” which ends with a statue worthy of this release, or of the investment you’ve made. We’re determined to do it right, and we’re determined to do right by you.
As promised, we’ll keep updating this blog every week until the corrected statues are in the warehouse and ready to ship. No disappearing, no vague hand-waving. Just progress. Or, on weeks where there’s no progress to report, other insights into the process.
