Happy Birthday! Limited Run Games is Celebrating its Sixth Anniversary!
October 27 2021
Limited Run Games was founded in 2015, and since then, we’ve gone on to release hundreds of games, win awards for our collector’s editions, and create the Carbon Engine—a development tool that will usher in a bright new era of retro game releases. That’s a lot to celebrate, so we’re going to share the love and mark the occasion with six prizes that you can win!
We’re going to give away six games that represent our company’s triumphs and milestones. Participants will be able to re-visit the six-year story of Limited Run Games and re-experience some of its most famous releases. We’ll announce the winners on November 6th.
Man, that’s a lot of sixes!

Here’s What We’re Giving Away to Celebrate:
Year 1 | Breach & Clear (PS Vita)
Limited Run Games wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for Breach & Clear. It will always hold a special place in our hearts as Limited Run #1. Developers Mighty Rabbit Studios were about to go out of business and realized that if the digital store hosting Breach & Clear ever closed, they may never be able to play the game they spent years making. To ensure the game would have a legacy, they decided to pursue a physical release. The game ended up selling out, and the rest is history!
Year 2 | The Silver Case (PC)
The Silver Case was a double-set of firsts for us: it was the first PC game and Collector’s Edition that we published. Despite physical PC games being largely phased out, we managed to sell over two thousand copies. This solidified that there was still a niche, but thriving, market for physical PC games.
Year 3 | Night Trap (PS4)
During the 1993 congressional hearings on violence in video games, Nintendo chairman Howard Lincoln infamously said: “Night Trap will never appear on a Nintendo system.” We would later go on to publish Night Trap on the Nintendo Switch (sorry, Howard).
Year 4 | Jak & Daxter (PS4)
When Naughty Dog approached us to help physically re-release their four beloved Jak & Daxter games on the PlayStation 4, we jumped at the chance! Naughty Dog would later go on to donate all proceeds from our collaboration to various charities, including the LGBT Center of Los Angeles, AbleGamers, Child’s Play, and the Surfrider Foundation.
Year 5 | Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game (Switch)
Since our start in 2015, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game was our most requested release, and it was at the very top of our personal lists. In 2021, we were finally able to release it in physical form. The title went on to be our biggest seller.
Year 6 | Castlevania Anniversary Collection Ultimate Edition (Switch)
We kicked off year six with a bang! We got to work with Konami for the first time, and we were able to work on one of the most iconic video game franchises ever—Castlevania!
But that’s not all! Our final winner will not only receive a copy of Castlevania Anniversary Collection for the Switch, but they will also receive their very own, brand spanking new Switch Console to play it on!
Limited Run: The Complete Run Vol 1 by Jeremy Parish
Also available this week is an amazing book by our own Jeremy Parish, a love letter to all of Limited Run Games’ very first releases. Limited Run: The Complete Run Vol 1 covers every game we published in 2015 and 2016, featuring full-color photographs and behind-the-scenes info about how our releases came to be. You can read an excerpt here. Reflect on our history by ordering your own copy today!
The Limited Run Games Anniversary Podcast is Live
In the newest episode of Runtime (the LRG podcast), Jared grabs several members of the Limited Run Games family and asks about how everything got started, what it’s like making games for a living, how things have changed over six years, and what’s next. Listen right here or on Apple Podcasts!
The Future is Physical!
Limited Run Games is ready to enter its seventh year in business! Looking ahead, we’re excited to keep bringing you releases through our Carbon Engine. The work we began by porting Shante from the GameBoy Color to the Nintendo Switch will continue throughout year seven and beyond, with multiple, yet-to-be-announced titles developed with the Carbon Engine releasing in the future. Stay tuned for what Limited Run has in store!
Finally, thank you so much to our customers, partners, and our team for all the hard work, support, and dedication they have given us over the years. Here’s to many more years of Limited Run Games! Forever Physical!
