Sonic X Shadow Generations: A Drumroll Please....

Brace for an exciting new reveal!

“Is this thing on?” we mumble, tapping the mic and blowing into it. The irritated groans of our audience confirm that this thing is, indeed, on. We had to check, you see. It’s been a while since we last had any concrete news about Sonic X Shadow Generations and the statue reboot, so we weren’t sure. But here we go. There’s movement. Things are happening.

A while back—a long while, now!—we showed off the 3D prototype that will be the basis of the new statue, and which Sega approved for us to move ahead with. That took us into the next phase of the project, wherein our manufacturing partners transformed that preliminary model into an actual setup for mass-producing thousands upon thousands of statues quickly and with consistent quality. The miracle of modern manufacturing!

Manufacturing at scale may be quick, but the process of getting set up for it takes some doing. A whole lot of tooling, testing, and refining has to happen up front in order to set up the project for success. But once the manufacturer is satisfied that they have everything in order, the prototype becomes a production sample—a token of their dry run for the main event. And that is where we stand now: the first suitable production sample has arrived for us to look at.

Well, it hasn’t technically arrived at the LRG offices. For the moment, the manufacturer has sent us some photos to review featuring the prototype and production sample side by side for comparison. The idea is that, should we find the sample satisfactory, they’ll ship the sample to us to examine in person and then, hopefully, pass along to Sega for their OK. The good news is that the first bar has been cleared: the photos look great to us! Even accounting for the fact the fragile prototype got a little banged up during its multi-destination trip to LRG, then Sega, then back to the manufacturer, the sample looks spot on.

So the next step will be for us to look at the sample in person and pass it along to Sega. That should happen pretty quickly, we expect, so look forward to more news soon. In the meantime, glom these great pics!

(Once again, don’t worry about the damage on the old prototype. That was a fragile 3D print. The final product will be many times more durable!)
