The ’Hogs' Are Alright

Sonic and Shadow have cleared the quality bar in virtual form. What’s next?

In last week’s blog, we opened the floor to accept your questions about our Sonic X Shadow Generations statue refit process, and about Limited Run Games in general. And you delivered! We’ve received a lot of interesting questions that we will answer... but not this week. No, our previously scheduled blog post has been interrupted by the fact that our revamped 3D renderings of the statue have passed internal approval.

We showed a zoomed-in hint of the renderings last week, but now we can show off the full creation in all of its glory:

If you’ve seen the original version of the statue, you may be thinking to yourself, “This doesn’t look that different from the first attempt. What’s the big deal? Why go to so much trouble?”

We asked that very question to our Product Development Project Manager, Jordi, and she explained that while the original statue looked pretty great, the difficulties that many customers experienced were caused by issues with its construction. The new version of the statue has been engineered for greater structural integrity, so that hedgehog limbs and other delicate components will hold up better over time (and during transit). At the same time, we’re also making an effort to give the statue a more seamless look so that mold lines are less visible, while also ensuring that the fit of the figures on the base is better and more secure.

With the 3D model approved, we’ve kicked the project back over to our manufacturing partners, who have begun to produce a fully painted prototype for review. That sample should be in our hands in a couple of weeks, and we’ll absolutely share that with you once it arrives at LRG headquarters.

In the meantime, our Q&A questionnaire is still open for business! We’ll be back with the answers to your burning inquiries next week.
