Well hello! Welcome back to This Just In, the more-or-less weekly feature wherein we showcase all the cool stuff that has arrived in the LRG warehouse, passed quality checks, and will soon be winging its way to YOU, the excellent fan who has these things on preorder. Your patience is about to pay off.
Earthion: Collector’s Edition
This week’s “wow I can’t believe I’m really holding this!” piece comes to us from one of the most legendary game composers of all time, Yuzo Koshiro. You surely know Koshiro’s work from classics like Streets of Rage or Etrian Odyssey or even his stellar contributions to Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin (available in the Dominus Collection via the LRG Vault right now!). But he’s also done some excellent game design work under the auspices of his studio, Ancient, and Earthion proves his bonafides... not that anyone had any doubt. It’s a brand new horizontal shooter designed for actual Sega Genesis hardware, running on modern systems, and does sincerely incredible things with the Genesis tech.
This Collector’s Edition includes the standard game, of course, but it also comes crammed with a huge number of bonus goodies to act as a sort of force multiplier for your enthusiasm about the game. The standout feature is a miniature replica of the Earthion arcade cabinet... not that any such thing ever existed, of course. But if it had, this would be a perfect small-scale reproduction of it. The mini cab even works, in a sense: it lights up and plays a demo reel of the game. Featuring Koshiro’s music, of course!
Also included are the soundtrack CD (how could we not include the soundtrack for a Yuzo Koshiro game?!), printed extras like stickers and a poster, and even a chunky metal keychain of the game logo. Needless to say, a crucial inclusion for any collection.
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake - Deluxe Edition
Our second box set this week is a more modest offering, but no less classy. We saw the standard edition of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake a few weeks back; now here’s the Deluxe Edition. It houses the standard edition inside one of our durable, velvety clamshell cases, along with a soundtrack CD, a poster, and a pin of the Tree of Life.
Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition
Puzzle Quest was a fixture of the PS3/Xbox 360 generation, so it makes for a nice little hit of nostalgia to see it back in action again. Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition revisits the classic story-based matching game with new visuals and so, so many gems to make disappear.
Ren & Stimpy: Happy Happy Joy Joy Collection
Ren AND Stimpy? In this economy? It’s true! This compilation features five different 8- and 16-bit games (including their various ports to other platforms) featuring the cartoon duo. That includes their Super NES games, which are eye-wateringly expensive on the aftermarket these days. But this collection doesn’t command eBay market rates. No, it was priced at a gentle $34.99 for everything. So yes, you really can have Ren and Stimpy... even in this economy.
Songs of Silence
This grand strategy title, featuring gorgeous illustrations in the tradition of Art Nouveau masters like Alphonse Mucha, has arrived in the warehouse as well.
9th Dawn Remake
...as has 9th Dawn Remake, an update of the 2012 open-world role-playing adventure.
